Pomona, CA (April 22, 2024) A life was senselessly taken over the weekend when a speeding hit-and-run driver killed a pedestrian. 44-year-old Ontario resident, Marco Banegas Perez, was sadly killed in this collision. The tragic accident took place in Pomona at approximately 1:35 a.m. on Towne Avenue, not far from 9th Street. Reports indicated that the driver was traveling at over 100 miles per hour when the vehicle hit the pedestrian.

Perez was with another man, said to be his brother, at the time of the accident. Marco Banegas Perez was crossing the street when, suddenly, two vehicles came speeding down Towne Avenue at speeds over 100 miles per hour. His brother said he could see the vehicles coming fast, but Perez was already in the middle of the road as he crossed. One of the vehicles ran over Perez, his brother reported. The two cars then continued driving, leaving the injured Perez behind.

The Pomona Police Department arrived at the scene and found Perez on the ground in the northbound lanes of Towne Avenue. Paramedics rushed to give life-saving measures, but there was nothing they could do. Perez’s injuries were too severe and they pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators are doing everything they can to try and figure out what type of vehicle hit the pedestrian and, in doing so, are determined to find the driver responsible. Fleeing the scene of an accident is not only heartless, but illegal. Anyone with information regarding this fatal accident is encouraged to contact the Pomona Police Department.
