San Diego, CA (October 15, 2024) A shocking and fatal accident occurred in San Diego on Sunday night, October 13th, 2024. It happened on Interstate 5, just after 9:00 p.m. A vehicle lost control and took out an electric box, which fell on a pedestrian and fatally injured them.
The single-vehicle collision started near downtown San Diego, according to reports. A Kia Soul suddenly lost control on southbound Interstate 5 and slammed into a cement barrier. It then sped down an embankment before crashing through brush and crashing into a large electric box. The box came loose and ended up hitting a pedestrian who was on the side of the off-ramp. The force from the electric box knocked the woman to the ground.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and found the vehicle on the side of the road with damage. Near the off-ramp, they found the victim, identified only as a woman, lying on the ground. Officers rushed to her side, but it was too late. She had been killed in the accident, according to reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
The California Highway Patrol closed the Imperial Avenue off-ramp, as well as Cesar Chavez Parkway, as they investigated and then cleaned the scene. The driver of the vehicle was a 23-year-old woman from Chula Vista. Officers are working to determine what caused the driver to lose control of the Kia that evening. The San Diego Police Department and the San Diego Fire Department assisted the CHP at the scene.
