(East Los Angeles, CA) A man was identified this week after being struck and killed in an Olympic Boulevard hit-and-run crash on a busy East Los Angeles street.

The California Highway Patrol responded at 11:02 p.m. Monday, March 16, to East Olympic Boulevard and Arizona Avenue. Officers found a man lying on the ground with multiple vehicles nearby. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. The man had sustained blunt trauma injuries from vehicle impact. Emergency responders assessed the scene and began investigation procedures. The victim was transported to the coroner’s office for official identification.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the victim on Tuesday as Guillermo Magallanes, 44. According to Fox 11 reports, three people in one vehicle stopped to examine the victim. Those individuals then drove away from the scene without providing aid. The California Highway Patrol noted the victim might have been struck by multiple vehicles. Investigators did not immediately release information about suspect vehicles or drivers. The investigation into the Olympic Boulevard hit-and-run continues as detectives seek witnesses.

Review of the Olympic Boulevard Hit-and-Run

When a pedestrian fatality involves multiple vehicles and witnesses leaving the scene, police examine traffic laws carefully. They work to identify all involved drivers. These reviews focus on driver responsibility and duties to render aid.

Officers examine the Hit-and-Run Law. This law requires all drivers involved in fatal collisions to stop. They must provide identifying information and render reasonable assistance. Leaving the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash is a serious felony. The crime carries substantial criminal penalties and prison time upon conviction and sentencing.

Authorities may also review the Basic Speed Law. This law requires drivers to travel at safe speeds for conditions. Speed must be appropriate for urban arterial roadways. Multiple vehicle involvement suggests drivers were traveling at excessive speeds. Fatal pedestrian injuries indicate significant impact forces from the vehicles.

Police may examine the Duty of Care to Pedestrians Law. This law requires drivers to exercise reasonable care to avoid pedestrians. Drivers must watch carefully in urban areas with foot traffic. Stopping to render aid is a legal duty. These laws help explain what caused the Olympic Boulevard hit-and-run.
