(Oceanside, CA) A man died Friday night in an Oceanside Boulevard crash after he was struck by a car while seated on a center median.

Officers responded around 7:19 p.m. to the intersection of Oceanside Boulevard and College Boulevard. Upon arriving, they found the victim unresponsive, where they pronounced him dead at the scene. Police say the eastbound driver of a black Ford Mustang remained on-site, cooperated with officers, and did not suspect them of impairment. Authorities have not released the man’s identity pending notification of next of kin.

Overview on the Oceanside Boulevard Crash

Fatal pedestrian collisions often involve an assessment of California’s Right-of-Way in Crosswalks Law.  Upon investigation, authorities will examine whether the pedestrian’s position created an unexpected hazard and whether the driver exercised due care. This law requires motorists to take precautions to avoid striking pedestrians in or near crosswalk areas.

Because the circumstances involve a vehicle traveling at normal roadway speeds, the Basic Speed Law may also be evaluated. This statute requires drivers to maintain a speed that is reasonable and prudent for roadway conditions, visibility, and potential hazards. Investigators may consider nighttime lighting, traffic flow, and sight distance when determining whether safe-speed requirements were met.

Support for the Community and Loved Ones

Those seeking more information can contact the Oceanside Police Department once they finalize the collision report. This will outline investigative findings and contributing factors.

Families coping with the unexpected loss of a loved one may wish to consult a wrongful death attorney to understand potential rights related to funeral costs, emotional damages, and other losses.

Local grief support resources are available to help loved ones through the impact of the Oceanside Boulevard crash.
