(Brentwood, CA) A West Park Lane Circle crash killed Nga Nguyen,67, when an unoccupied work truck rolled backward in Brentwood.

On Friday, August 29, at 10:45 a.m., the West Park Lane Circle crash occurred. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, it happened in the 16500 block of West Park Lane Circle.

Upon investigating, officials learned an unoccupied work truck rolled backward and struck Nga Nguyen. The impact caused traumatic injuries, and paramedics pronounced Nguyen dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified her and ruled the death accidental, citing blunt force trauma as the cause.

Authorities confirmed Cal/OSHA received notification of the crash. Since the incident involved a work vehicle, investigators will examine whether safety procedures and equipment, such as parking brakes or wheel chocks, were properly used. The sudden West Park Lane Circle crash shocked the Brentwood community. Officials have not disclosed Nguyen’s city of residence, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Legal Opinion on the Nga Nguyen, West Park Lane Circle Crash

A lawyer speaks to a client regarding an accident.

The death of Nga Nguyen in the West Park Lane Circle crash raises serious legal and safety issues. Even though the Medical Examiner ruled the death accidental, California law still places responsibility on employers and workers to secure heavy equipment properly. One key regulation is California Vehicle Code 22515, which requires drivers to set the parking brake before leaving a vehicle unattended. Failing to do so can result in a runaway vehicle, just like in this tragedy. Employers must also train workers under workplace safety laws enforced by Cal/OSHA. If investigators find improper training or lack of equipment, the employer could face penalties.

Another applicable law is California Vehicle Code 23114, which covers the safe operation of vehicles carrying or towing heavy loads. While the truck was not moving under driver control, the fact that it rolled backward could suggest improper securing or failure to meet required safety standards. In addition, Cal/OSHA rules require employers to maintain work vehicles in safe condition. If an equipment failure caused the rollback, liability could fall on the company that owned or maintained the truck. Even if no criminal charges follow, civil liability remains possible. The Nguyen’s family may pursue a wrongful death claim under California Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. This law allows close relatives to seek damages for funeral expenses, lost financial support, and the emotional toll of losing a loved one.

    What the Family Can Do

The family of Nga Nguyen should consult a wrongful death attorney familiar with workplace-related accidents. The attorney can obtain the Cal/OSHA report, review vehicle maintenance records, and examine whether the employer followed proper safety measures. Even if the Medical Examiner called the death accidental, the law recognizes that accidents caused by negligence still create liability. If evidence shows that the employer or workers failed to secure the truck, the family could hold them accountable through civil action.

Pursuing a wrongful death claim may provide financial support for funeral costs and emotional damages. It can also push for improved safety measures so that no other family suffers such a preventable loss. Taking action quickly ensures evidence remains available and that the family’s rights are protected.
