Mission Hills, CA (July 9, 2023) A very sad accident took place on Monday, July 8, in the early hours of the morning.
A pedestrian was walking along the road on the Golden State Freeway, also known as the 5, near Mission Hills.
Officers responded to the scene at around 1:23 a.m. after being alerted to a collision. They were dispatched to the northbound lanes near the San Fernando Mission offramp.
Tragically, they found the pedestrian laying in the middle lanes of the road. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Update: Tuesday evening, the victim was identified as Anthony Mendoza, a 25-year-old.
It’s unclear what kind of vehicle hit the pedestrian, if any other vehicles struck them afterward, or if any drivers remained on the scene.
