(Menifee, CA) Miguel Angel Castillo, 28, of Menifee was booked into the Byrd Detention Center on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury or death on Monday, January 20.
The motorist is suspected of striking and killing a 53-year-old woman named Lucia Delgado, who was from San Bernardino. Castillo fled the scene.
The collision occurred around 7 a.m. on Sunday, January 19, on McCall Boulevard west of Aspel Road. Delgado was reportedly walking in the westbound lanes when she was struck by Castillo. Another motorist found Delgado in the roadway and called the police.
Paramedics arrived about twenty minutes later, but they tragically pronounced Delgado deceased at the scene.
Castillo posted a $75,000 bond and was released from jail a few hours after his booking on Monday evening.

Liability in a Menifee Car Accident
California Vehicle Code 20002 states that one is guilty of misdemeanor hit-and-run if they left an accident scene, failed to identify themselves to the others involved in the accident, and damage occurred to someone else’s property.

A hit-and-run that results in injury or death is a felony, in accordance with California Vehicle Code 20003.
A felony hit-and-run that results in a non-serious injury can carry a penalty of up to 1 year in jail or prison. If the accident resulted in serious injury or death, a suspect could get 2 to 4 years in prison, and a fine ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Like a misdemeanor hit-and-run, it also requires victim restitution and will result in points on one’s driving record.
