(Compton, CA) A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday morning, October 15, in a Las Hermanas Street crash after being struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Compton, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred around 6 a.m. at East Las Hermanas Street and Santa Fe Avenue. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived shortly after and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Officials closed the intersection for several hours as CHP investigators examined evidence. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Overview on the Las Hermanas Street Crash
Pedestrian deaths in urban intersections often raise questions about visibility, driver attentiveness, and crosswalk safety. Investigators will review how and why the collision occurred during early morning hours.
Because this crash involved a vehicle striking a pedestrian, California Vehicle Code 21950 will likely be reviewed. This law requires drivers to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians crossing within both marked and unmarked crosswalks. It also reminds pedestrians to act safely and avoid stepping into a vehicle’s path too suddenly.
If speed or driver inattention contributed to the crash, the Basic Speed Law may also apply. It requires drivers to maintain speeds reasonable and prudent for current conditions. This would include lighting, traffic, and pedestrian activity. Even when obeying posted limits, drivers must adjust their speed to prevent collisions.
CHP officials will analyze roadway design, traffic patterns, and witness statements to determine what led to the Las Hermanas Street crash. They will also look into whether any safety improvements could help prevent similar tragedies in the area.
Guidance for the Family

It may also help to reach out to the Los Angeles County Victim Assistance Program for counseling, financial guidance, and grief support. Consulting with a wrongful death attorney can also help families understand their legal options and pursue accountability as they begin the process of healing.
