Florence-Graham, Los Angeles, CA (August 28, 2024) Officers were dispatched to Alameda Street in the middle of the night on Tuesday, August 28th, 2024. Tragically, a pedestrian had been struck and killed by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene. It happened just after 1:00 a.m., in Florence-Graham, not far from Broadway, officers reported.

As stars filled the dark, night skies, a pedestrian walked along Alameda Street on Tuesday morning, August 28th. As the pedestrian approached 7927 Alameda Street, a vehicle approached. The pedestrian was struck, throwing them several feet before hitting the ground. The driver then hit the gas and fled the scene, according to reports.

Officers Sean Lough with the California Highway Patrol told City News Service that they arrived to find the pedestrian on the ground. They had obviously been hit by a vehicle, but there was no vehicle around. Lough reported that they are treating this accident as a hit-and-run. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department found the victim unresponsive and, sadly, pronounced them dead at the scene.

Update (August 30): The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Julio Castellon.
