Red Bluff, CA (December 5, 2023) 61-year-old Ginger Morgan was struck and killed by a vehicle in Red Bluff on Sunday, December 3rd. The Red Bluff Police Department said the accident happened on Highway 36 at approximately 8:37 p.m.

It happened east of Interstate 5 in the eastbound lane of Antelope Boulevard-Highway 36, authorities said. A 1988 Chevrolet van, driven by a 56-year-old man, was heading east on Antelope Boulevard at about 35 miles per hour when he hit Morgan. He told officers that he saw Morgan walking across the street directly in front of him, but he didn’t have time to stop. Following an investigation, officers determined that the driver had not been under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of this fatal collision.

The investigation is ongoing as it appears Morgan could have been at fault for stepping onto the road in front of an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the van appeared to have a suspended license at the time of the accident.

Who Is At Fault In A Pedestrian Accident In Red Bluff?

Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in pedestrian accidents. According to the the Centers for Disease Control, “An estimated 137,000 pedestrians were treated in the emergency departments for nonfatal crash-related injuries in 2017. Per trip, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car crash.” There are a number of factors that could lead to a pedestrian collision including: driver distraction, speeding, drunk driving and inclement weather.

All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians. The family of any victim that died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and suffering. A wrongful death attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
