(Fullerton, CA) A man was struck and killed Sunday evening, November 23, in a Gilbert Street crash while pushing a wheelchair through a crosswalk.
According to the Fullerton Police Department, the collision occurred around 6:40 p.m. near South Gilbert Street and West Orangethorpe Avenue. Investigators said the man was pushing a wheelchair north in a marked crosswalk on the west side of the street. At that moment, a white Toyota Prius turned west onto Orangethorpe and struck him.
Fire Department personnel provided medical aid and transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Prius remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Authorities said it’s unclear whether the man crossed against a “Don’t Walk” signal. Authorities don’t believe drugs and alcohol to be factors in the crash.
