(Chula Vista, CA) A 66-year-old man was seriously injured late Monday night, October 27, in a Fourth Avenue accident after being struck while crossing the street, authorities said.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, the crash occurred around 8:50 p.m. near the 100 block of Fourth Avenue. When police investigated, they learned the man walked from west to east between intersections. At that moment, he was hit by a white northbound Scion TC driven by a 58-year-old woman.

When paramedics arrived, they performed lifesaving measures before transporting the victim to a nearby trauma center. Police said his injuries were significant, but his current condition has not been released.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the CVPD Traffic Bureau at 619-476-5300.

Overview on the Fourth Avenue Accident

When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, investigators often review the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This law requires drivers to exercise due care to avoid collisions and to yield when pedestrians are in the roadway. Even if a pedestrian crosses mid-block, drivers must remain alert and take precautions to prevent injury.

If speed or inattention contributed to the crash, the Basic Speed Law could apply. It prohibits driving faster than is safe for current conditions, including lighting and pedestrian presence. Investigators will likely assess whether the driver’s speed or visibility played a role in the impact.

In addition, the Reckless Driving Law may be reviewed. It addresses the responsibility of all motorists to operate safely and attentively. These statutes together will help determine the causes and circumstances of the Fourth Avenue accident.

Support for the Family and the Victim

You should remain in contact with Chula Vista Police investigators to receive updates about your loved one’s condition. Also request the official collision report once it’s complete to get clarity of the accident once it’s available.

When the time is right, consider consulting with an attorney experienced in pedestrian injury cases. They can help you understand your legal rights and potential next steps.

Above all, focus on recovery and support. Lean on family, friends, and local community services in Chula Vista to help your loved one heal physically and emotionally after this serious accident.
