(El Cajon, CA) A 70-year-old man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon, November 4, in a Fletcher Parkway collision after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene, authorities said.

According to the El Cajon Police Department, officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian crash in the 400 block of Fletcher Parkway. When first responders arrived, they found the victim suffering from a serious head injury.  Paramedics transported him to a hospital, where doctors expect them to survive.

Witnesses provided officers with a detailed description of the suspect’s vehicle, including its license plate number. Using automated license plate reader technology, officers quickly located and arrested the driver. They identified the driver as Brian Guevara, 19. Police said Guevara later admitted involvement in the incident and was booked into county jail on hit-and-run charges.

Overview on the Fletcher Parkway Collision

In crashes where a driver leaves the scene, the Hit-and-Run Statute is central to the investigation. This law requires drivers involved in collisions causing injury or death to stop, identify themselves, and provide reasonable assistance to the injured. Fleeing, even briefly, can elevate charges to a felony offense.

Because the victim was a pedestrian, the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law may also apply. It requires motorists to use due care and yield to pedestrians crossing the roadway, particularly in urban areas with crosswalks and heavy foot traffic like Fletcher Parkway.

If driver inattention or recklessness was a factor, the Reckless Driving Law could be considered. This statute prohibits driving with willful disregard for the safety of persons or property. Each of these laws will guide prosecutors and investigators as they evaluate the Fletcher Parkway collision.

    Support for the Family

You should remain in close contact with the El Cajon Police Department for updates about the case and court proceedings against the suspect. Requesting the official collision report will help clarify the sequence of events once it is available.

When you are ready, consider reaching out to an attorney who handles pedestrian injury and hit-and-run cases. They can explain your family’s rights and assist in ensuring accountability for what happened.

Most importantly, focus on recovery and support. Lean on family, friends, and local community resources in El Cajon as your loved one heals and your family processes this frightening incident.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
