(Los Angeles, California) On October 1st, at around 1:15 p.m., a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run traffic collision.

When the Los Angeles Police Department investigated, they learned the pedestrian crossed Figueroa Street, just north of 79th Street. The victim was struck by an unidentified vehicle, resulting in the rider to fall onto the road leading to fatal injuries. The driver did not stay at the scene and render aid to the pedestrian.

After some time, the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where hospital staff pronounced him dead. The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are now in search for the involved individual of the hit-and-run crash.

Legal Perspective on the Figueroa Street Hit-and-Run Accident

When it comes to hit-and-run collisions, there are various law codes that investigators review to understand what laws were violated. They would also look into specific penalties and fines that the suspect would have to face including imprisonment.

Since the driver struck the pedestrian as they were on the roadway, it’s possible investigators will review California Vehicle Code 21950 to which it requires drivers to exercise all care to pedestrians in an unmarked/marked crosswalk and reduce their speed or take any other actions relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary for the safety of the pedestrian.

If authorities suspect impairment, the driver could be in violation of California Vehicle Code 23152. This law code prohibits driving under the influence of any alcoholic beverages or drugs. Specifically, if the driver drove with 0.08% or more of BAC, they have committed a DUI. If they were driving a commercial vehicle with 0.05% or more, by weight of BAC then they have also committed a DUI.

If the driver violated this code, they may face a serious fine of $1,000 and imprisonment in a county jail for 6 months. They may face imprisonment on days they are not working.
