(West Rancho Dominguez, CA) An East 139th Street collision resulted in the death of Georgia Moore, 68, Friday evening, October 24, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers were called around 7:23 p.m. to East 139th Street and Avalon Boulevard. Initial reports indicate that a white sedan had struck Moore in the roadway, said CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig. When Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics arrived, they pronounced her dead at the scene.

Authorities said it was not immediately clear whether the crash was a hit-and-run. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the victim.

Overview on the East 139th Street Collision

When a pedestrian is struck and killed, investigators typically review the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This statute requires drivers to exercise due care to avoid hitting anyone crossing the street and to slow down when pedestrians are present. Investigators will likely assess lighting, traffic flow, and visibility at the time of the crash.

If the driver fled the scene or failed to provide assistance, the Hit-and-Run Statute would apply. It requires drivers involved in a collision causing injury or death to stop, identify themselves, and render aid. Whether the white sedan’s driver remained or fled will be central to the investigation.

Should unsafe speed or careless operation be suspected, the Basic Speed Law could also be relevant. It prohibits driving faster than is safe for conditions, especially in mixed-use or residential areas where pedestrians may be crossing. Each of these laws will help CHP determine what led to the East 139th Street collision that killed Georgia Moore.

    Guidance for Moore’s Family

You should remain in contact with the California Highway Patrol’s South Los Angeles Station for updates about the case and confirmation of your loved one’s identity. Requesting the collision report can also help clarify what happened once it is available.

When ready, you may want to consult an attorney experienced in pedestrian-fatality cases. They can help you understand your legal rights and potential next steps.

Finally, take care of your emotional health during this difficult time. Lean on friends, family, or local grief-counseling resources in Los Angeles County for comfort and support as you navigate the days ahead.
