Los Angeles, CA (August 19, 2024) A California Highway Patrol officer was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle, early on Sunday morning, August 18th. The collision occurred on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles right around 3:30 a.m., near the 14 Freeway interchange in Sylmar, according to reports.
A black Tesla became disabled on a blind curve on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles. An officer with the California Highway Patrol stopped to assist the motorist just before 3:30 a.m. Reports indicated that the officers helped push the vehicle off of the roadway. As the officer was pushing the Tesla, another black vehicle came around the curve and hit the officer. The force sent the officer up onto the vehicle’s windshield, cracking it, before he was thrown onto the ground.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the officer on the ground with serious injuries. Paramedics loaded them into an ambulance and rushed them to a local hospital to receive treatment for unknown injuries. Sgt. Dan Keene with the California Highway Patrol told news sources that “officers put their lives on the line every day for their community and to keep everyone safe.” For reasons that remain unknown, several people were arrested at the scene, according to reports.
Officers continue to investigate this accident. They are determined to understand exactly what happened on that dark, early morning on the 5 Freeway in Los Angeles. A tow truck was called to the scene, according to reports, to remove at least one of the vehicles from the roadway.
