(Fresno, CA) Police are investigating a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in a Cedar Avenue crash late Sunday night in central Fresno.

Authorities said the incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cedar and Cornell Avenues, south of Shields Avenue. The vehicle involved reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

The victim sustained moderate injuries, paramedics transporting them to Community Regional Medical Center, police said. Authorities believe the suspect vehicle to be a dark-colored 2016–2018 sedan, but no description of the driver has been released. Investigators continue to review evidence, asking anyone with information to contact Fresno police.

Perspective on the Cedar Avenue Crash

Police take Hit-and-run incidents like this one very seriously. Even when injuries are not life-threatening, leaving the scene of a crash can lead to severe consequences. Investigators will likely focus on several state statutes to determine responsibility and next steps.

Because the driver fled after hitting a pedestrian, the Hit-and-Run Statute is most relevant. This law requires any driver involved in an injury collision to stop immediately, provide identification, and offer assistance to anyone hurt. Failing to do so is a felony offense when injuries occur.

If investigators find that speed or unsafe maneuvers contributed to the collision, the Basic Speed Law may also apply. It prohibits driving faster than is safe for current traffic and visibility conditions. This especially relates to the case since the incident occurred at night.

Authorities will analyze evidence such as debris, surveillance footage, and witness accounts to locate the driver and determine what caused the Cedar Avenue crash.

    Support for the Family

If someone you love was injured in a hit-and-run, you deserve clear information and compassionate support. You can request a copy of the police report once it becomes available. After getting the police report, contact a personal injury attorney experienced in pedestrian cases for guidance on your options.

It’s also helpful to stay in touch with medical providers and victim support organizations in Fresno County that assist families during recovery. Taking these steps can help you feel more informed and supported as the investigation continues.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
