(North Hollywood, CA) Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who fled the scene after seriously injuring a pedestrian in a Bellaire Avenue crash.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 24. Investigators said a man in his 60s was walking northbound across Bellaire Avenue in a marked crosswalk. At that moment, he was struck by a white 2017 to 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport traveling westbound on Sherman Way.

Police said the impact threw the victim into the air before he landed on the roadway. The driver continued westbound on Sherman Way without stopping to render aid. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the injured man to a hospital, where he was treated for severe injuries.

Detectives with the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division determined the suspect vehicle had exited a shopping center at 12650 Sherman Way shortly before the collision. Investigators believe the SUV may have visible damage to the front hood or fender as a result of the crash.

Authorities reminded drivers that anyone involved in a collision must stop as soon as it is safe, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the suspect’s identity, arrest, and conviction. The investigation into the Bellaire Avenue crash remained ongoing.

Analysis on the Bellaire Avenue Crash

When a pedestrian is struck in a marked crosswalk and the driver flees, investigators review traffic safety laws to understand what factors may have contributed, without assigning fault prematurely. These reviews often focus on right-of-way, driver attentiveness, and the legal obligation to remain at the scene.

Because police said the victim was in a marked crosswalk, authorities may examine the Pedestrian Right-of-Way Law. This law requires drivers to yield to pedestrians crossing within marked crosswalks. Investigators may review traffic signals, lighting, and driver approach to determine whether the pedestrian had the right of way.

Since the suspect allegedly continued driving without stopping, officials will closely review the Duty to Stop and Render Aid Law. This statute requires drivers involved in collisions that cause injury to stop immediately and provide identifying information. Failing to do so can significantly increase legal consequences.

Investigators may also consider the Basic Speed Law if speed becomes relevant. This law requires motorists to drive at speeds reasonable for traffic and roadway conditions. These combined statutes help guide LAPD’s evaluation of the Bellaire Avenue crash as detectives continue gathering evidence.

    What the Family Can Do

If you are supporting the injured man or his loved ones, staying in contact with investigators can help you receive updates and request official police reports when they become available.

You may also consider speaking with a qualified legal professional to better understand your options after a serious hit-and-run injury. Emotional support from family members, friends, or counseling services can also be important during a difficult and uncertain time.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
