(Los Angeles, CA) A 57-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning, October 19, in an Arleta Avenue hit-and-run after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Arleta Avenue and Wentworth Street. Upon investigation, authorities learned a silver Honda Civic traveled northbound on Arleta. At some point, they struck the pedestrian and continued driving without stopping.

When Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived, they transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Doctors later pronounced him dead from his injuries. Authorities have not yet released his name. LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division is investigating and urges anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle to come forward.

Perspective on the Arleta Avenue Hit-and-Run

Fatal hit-and-run crashes remain a significant public safety concern in Los Angeles. Investigators are working to determine what led to the collision and to identify the driver who left the scene.

The most relevant law in this type of case is the Hit-and-Run Statute. This law requires any driver involved in a crash causing injury or death to stop immediately, provide identification, and render aid. Failing to do so is a felony offense and carries severe legal consequences.

Because the victim was struck while on foot, California Vehicle Code 21950 may also apply. This statute requires drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and to use due care. Early morning lighting conditions can make pedestrians harder to see, but drivers are still responsible for remaining alert and slowing down as needed.

Police are continuing their investigation into the Arleta Avenue hit-and-run, reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements in an effort to locate the suspect driver and bring justice for the victim’s family.

    Support for the Family

If you were related to the victim, help is available. You can contact the LAPD Valley Traffic Division for updates on the investigation and to request the collision report once it’s finalized.

The Los Angeles County Victim Assistance Program offers grief counseling, legal guidance, and financial support for families coping with the aftermath of a fatal hit-and-run. Connecting with these resources can help you find both emotional support and direction as the search for the driver involved in the Arleta Avenue hit-and-run continues.

If you have any concerns about navigating the legal process surrounding this incident, call 866-883-4318 to speak with a lawyer.
