Yucca Valley, CA (January 7, 2024) A community has united in support following the devastating death of 16-year-old Joshua Alexander Barreras. Barreras was hit by a vehicle on January 26th and left alone to die in the center median of Twentynine Palms Highway, officers said.

It was 8:26 p.m. when Barreras was walking down Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley. He was just east of Avalon Avenue, not far from Walmart, officers said, when Barreras was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle didn’t stop to render aid or to call 911 for help, instead, it continued driving, leaving the teen with life-threatening injuries in the center median of the highway.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department vehicle was driving down Twentynine Palms Highway when they noticed something in the center median. The deputies stopped and discovered Barreras, unresponsive. Deputies said it was obvious that the boy had been struck by a vehicle. They rushed to give him aid while calling for an ambulance, deputies reported. Barreras was rushed to Hi-Desert Medical Center in critical condition. Medical personnel did everything they could to try and save the teenager’s life, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Department said they are now looking for a white 2020 to 2022 Dodge Ram 4500-5500 pickup truck. Deputies reported that the pickup will have damage to the driver’s side headlight and the front fender.

Barreras’ family is still grappling with the idea that he is no longer with them. His grandmother, Sherry Moreno, said that the support and love from the community has helped the family deal with this tragedy. A family friend created a GoFundMe account to help the family with expenses as they lay Barreras to rest.

All of us at Accident News Now extend our heartfelt condolences to Barreras’ family as they deal with the sudden loss of someone so young. We have a team of professionals who genuinely care and are ready to answer any questions you may have following this devastating accident.
