Overview on the Ventura (101) Freeway Collision

In freeway crashes involving motorcycles, investigators often look to the Lane Sharing and Safe Passing Law. This law requires vehicles to maintain a safe distance when passing or traveling near motorcycles. It helps prevent side-swipe or rear-end collisions that can easily become fatal for riders.

If unsafe speed or following distance was a factor, the Basic Speed Law may also apply. It mandates that drivers travel at speeds that are reasonable and safe for traffic, weather, and visibility conditions. Even on freeways, driving too fast for the flow of traffic can lead to sudden and deadly impacts.

Should reckless or inattentive driving be suspected, the Reckless Driving Law could come into play. It prohibits driving with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of others. Each of these statutes will guide investigators as they determine what caused the Ventura (101) Freeway collision.
