(La Mesa, CA) A man identified as Roberto Jimenez Jr., 26, of San Diego was killed early Sunday morning, October 26, in a State Route 125 crash after the vehicle he was riding in struck a parked car, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. on northbound State Route 125 near Spring Street. A 2023 Nissan Sentra carrying Jimenez veered out of its lane and crashed into a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E350 parked along the right shoulder.

After the impact, the Nissan’s driver fled the scene on foot, leaving behind Jimenez, who sustained fatal injuries. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

CHP investigators said the crash remains under investigation, and the search continues for the driver who fled. Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP at its El Cajon office.

Overview on the State Route 125 Crash

When a driver leaves the scene of a fatal collision, investigators focus on the Hit-and-Run Statute. This law requires drivers involved in a crash resulting in injury or death to stop, identify themselves, and render reasonable aid. Fleeing after a deadly collision is a felony offense and will be central to this case.

If the Nissan driver’s loss of control contributed to the crash, the Unsafe Lane Change Law may also apply. It mandates that drivers only turn or move lanes when it is safe to do so. Investigators will likely review road conditions and whether distraction, fatigue, or impairment caused the driver to veer off the highway.

Because this was a fatal incident, the Reckless Driving Law could also be considered. It prohibits operating a vehicle with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of others. These statutes together will help CHP determine full accountability for the State Route 125 crash.
