Montebello, CA (August 12, 2024) A collision between a motorcycle and a car occurred on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Montebello on Sunday night, August 11th. Unfortunately, one person was killed and another sustained serious injuries in this accident. It occurred around 8:30 p.m., not too far from the Garfield Avenue off-ramp, officers reported.
The motorcycle and the car were both driving on the eastbound lanes of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Montebello on Sunday night. For reasons that remain unclear, the two collided, according to reports. The force from the impact knocked the rider from the motorcycle, causing them to come to a stop in the middle lanes of the eastbound freeway.
The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the motorcyclist lying on the freeway. Witnesses reported that the victim wasn’t moving. Officers hurried to the rider’s side and did everything they could to save the victim’s life, but their injuries proved to be too severe. Sadly, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, right there in the middle of the freeway. It was mere minutes before 9:00 p.m., according to reports. Another person was found at the scene with serious injuries. Paramedics transported the person to a local hospital to receive treatment. There have been no updates on the person’s condition.
Update: The deceased victim has been identified as Claudia Barrera-Rocha.
Officers had to close every single eastbound lane, issuing a SigAlert and asking drivers to use an alternate route. Reports indicated that the freeway was closed until 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning, causing a few traffic issues. Detectives gathered evidence and the damaged vehicles and the smashed motorcycle had to be towed from the scene. Crews worked as quickly as they could to remove the glass and debris from the freeway, reports indicated. The cause of this accident is still being investigated.
