Hesperia, CA (July 26, 2024) A motorcyclist remains in the hospital following a collision with a semi-truck on Tuesday night, July 23rd. The accident took place on Interstate 15 near the Main Street off-ramp right around 10:00 p.m., officers reported.
Headlights illuminated the roadway as vehicles traveled along Interstate 15 in Hesperia on Tuesday night. Among the vehicles was a motorcycle and a semi-truck pulling a trailer. One of the tires on the semi-truck suddenly blew, witnesses reported. The force from the blowout caused the bumper and front hood of the big rig to detach and slam into the side of the truck. The truck driver began to lose control of the big rig and hit the motorcycle. The rider was thrown and sent down the roadway, causing major road rash as well as other injuries. The semi-truck eventually came to a stop, reports indicated.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived at the scene when the California Highway Patrol who temporary stopped traffic. Reports indicated that an air ambulance was requested. Witnesses said the helicopter landed in the middle of the freeway and once the victim was loaded, it lifted and flew away towards a trauma center. The motorcyclist remains at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, but authorities have reported that he should make a full recovery.
Reports suggested that the motorcyclist was on his way home after saying goodbye to his best friend at Desert Valley Hospital, who had passed away, when he was hit by the semi-truck. A friend told news outlets that the victim sustained serious road rash, a lacerated liver and broken ribs, but is healing and doing well.
