Las Vegas, NV (June 21, 2024) A tragic accident took place in southwest Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon, June 20th. A motorcycle collided with a truck on Durango Drive, near Arby Avenue, claiming the 44-year-old motorcyclist’s life. The deadly collision took place around 3:30 p.m. and was the 77th traffic accident in Las Vegas this year, according to reports.
A 44-year-old man was riding a motorcycle on Durango Drive, heading south, on Thursday afternoon. At the same time, a truck was heading north on the same road and moved into the turning lane to turn onto Arby Avenue. Witnesses say the truck stopped and then begin to turn directly in the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist had no time to stop or get out of the way and slammed into the truck’s right rear side. The impact threw the motorcyclist from his ride and he landed in the middle of the road.
Emergency personnel hurried to the scene and found the motorcyclist in the middle of the road with life-threatening injuries. Paramedics begin performing life-saving treatment and the motorcyclist was rushed to a local hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Reports indicated that they had sustained minor injuries in the collision and was treated at the scene by paramedics. Officers said that the driver did not show signs of intoxication following the accident.
Detectives gathered evidence at the scene and took statements from witnesses. They want to better understand what happened on Durango Drive to cause this deadly collision. The motorcycle was lying in the road, debris all around it, with its front wheel completely bent. It had to be hauled from the scene on a flatbed truck, reports indicated.
