North Hills, CA (August 2, 2024) A motorcyclist tragically lost their life on Thursday afternoon, August 1st, in North Hills. The fatal accident took place on the Santa Monica 405 Freeway near Nordhoff Street between the motorcycle and another vehicle. Officer Elizabeth Kravig with the California Highway Patrol told City News Service that the accident occurred just after 2:00 a.m.
A motorcyclist was riding north on the Santa Monica (405) Freeway on the afternoon of Thursday, August 1st, 2024. A dark sedan was also traveling along the same stretch of freeway and, just after 2:00 a.m., it struck the motorcycle. The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle, sending them barreling into the middle lanes of the freeway. The motorcycle was sent skidding across the roadway until it finally came to a stop in a dented and broken heap.

The California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene within minutes and found both the rider and the sedan in the middle of the freeway. Officers hurried to give the victim life-saving treatment, but it was too late. The motorcyclist had been killed in the accident and they were pronounced dead at the scene, right there in the middle of the freeway, by authorities.
Update: The motorcyclist has been identified as 30-year-old Raymond Cody Gomez.
Officers took a statement from the driver of the dark-colored sedan and gathered evidence at the scene. The investigation into this deadly accident is ongoing as officers try to determine what exactly happened and who was at fault. The damaged motorcycle had to be hauled away on a flat bed truck and crews picked up the few pieces of the debris that were left behind.
