Stockton, CA (July 29, 2024) A fatal motorcycle collision occurred in Stockton on Saturday night, July 27th. A 56-year-old man was killed while riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle near Wilson Way on Highway 99, officers reported. The deadly crash happened at approximately 8:30 p.m.

A man was riding a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle in a southbound lane of Highway 99 on Saturday night, at around 80 mph. At the same time, a 43-year-old woman in a 2022 Toyota was in the lane beside the motorcyclist, driving at approximately 65 miles per hour. The woman had two passengers in her vehicle, both identified only as people in their 70s, according to reports. The motorcyclist suddenly changed lanes directly behind the Toyota, while still traveling at an unsafe speed.

The California Highway Patrol stated that the rider must have realized, too late, what he had done and hit the brakes on the motorcycle. This caused the rider to lose control. The motorcycle crashed into the back of the Toyota, officers reported, and then fell onto the roadway. The rider was thrown several feet from the bike and landed hard on the ground. The motorcycle finally came to a stop in the no. 3 lane of the eastbound Highway and the rider laid, motionless, on the ground.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and found the Toyota on the shoulder of the road. The motorcycle was laying in the middle of the no. 3 lane, causing traffic issues, and the rider was on the ground. Officers checked the rider and found him unresponsive. They began life-saving treatment, but sadly he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Everyone inside the Toyota had been wearing their seat belts during the crash and although they were shaken, none of them were injured, officers reported. Following the initial investigation, officers suspect that alcohol may have been a factor in this tragic and deadly collision on Highway 99 in Stockton.
