San Diego, CA (June 21, 2024) A traumatic accident took place on the 5 Freeway in San Diego on June 20th. A motorcyclist collided with another vehicle and was then hit by a second vehicle, according to reports. The horrible accident took place around 1:00 a.m. near Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. Tragically, the 35-year-old motorcyclist died at the hospital after the collision.
It was the middle of the night in San Diego as darkness covered the roadways. Street lights and headlights illuminated portions of the 5 Freeway as motorists traveled at a steady pace. A 35-year-old man from San Diego was riding an Indian brand two-wheeler along the freeway when, for reasons unknown, he collided with a Mini Cooper. The force from the crash threw the rider off his motorcycle and onto the freeway as a Nissas Sentra was approaching. The Nissan couldn’t avoid the motorcyclist and hit him, officers reported. The Mini Cooper and the Nissan both stopped and waited for officers at the scene.

Police officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man lying in the middle of the freeway with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a local hospital, via ambulance, to receive treatment for critical injuries. The emergency medical staff did everything they could to save the motorcyclist, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports.
Authorities were forced to close a section of the southbound side of the 5 Freeway following the collision. They investigated the accident and gathered as much evidence as they could find. They also took statements from those involved, as well as witnesses. Officers are determined to piece together what happened on the 5 Freeway to cause this tragic collision.
