Calaveras County, CA (July 2, 2024) A tragic accident left the community of Calaveras County grieving on Tuesday morning. A motorcyclist lost their life in an accident on July 2nd, right around 9:40 a.m., according to reports. The collision between the motorcycle and a vehicle took place at the intersection of Black Creek Drive and O’Byrnes Ferry Road.

Initial reports indicated that a motorcyclist was riding through Copperopolis on Tuesday morning, approaching the intersection of Black Creek Drive and O’Byrnes Ferry Road. At the same time, another vehicle was traveling toward the same intersection. The details surrounding the collision remain unknown at this time, but officers do know that the two vehicles collided. The force from the impact sent the motorcyclist several feet through the air before they landed, reports indicated. The motorcycle skidded across the roadway before it came to a stop in a dented heap.

Cal Fire and the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene within minutes and found the motorcyclist on the ground, unresponsive. Paramedics rushed to give life-saving treatment, but the victim’s injuries were too severe. The motorcyclist succumbed to their injuries and was, sadly, pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.

Officers had to close O’Byrnes Ferry Road in both directions so they could investigate the scene, according to reports. They gathered as much evidence as they could before calling someone to remove the motorcycle from the scene. The investigation is ongoing, officers reported, and they are working as fast as they can to determine what exactly happened in that intersection. They are also determined to figure out who was at fault.
