Avila Beach, CA (August 10, 2024) Sadness and shock swept through Avila Beach on Tuesday evening, August 6th, as residents learned of a motorcyclist’s death. The fatal collision occurred right around 6:00 p.m. at the intersection of First Street and Avila Beach Drive, officers reported. The collision occurred between a pickup truck and motorcycle, not far from San Luis Obispo.
A 58-year-old man from Arroyo Grande was riding a 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle along Avila Beach in Butte County. A 2022 Chevrolet Silverado approached the intersection at the same time as the motorcyclist. The 29-year-old driver from Santa Maria attempted to make a left turn from First Street onto Avila Beach Drive. However, officers reported that the motorcyclist continued through the intersection at the same time and was struck by a pickup truck. The rider was thrown from the motorcycle, landing in the middle of the intersection.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene within minutes and found the rider on the ground, motionless. Paramedics rushed to his side, ready to give aid, and found him with life-threatening injures. They quickly transported him to Adventist Health Sierra Vista Hospital in San Luis Obispo to receive emergency treatment. The emergency medical team did everything they could, but the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to reports.
Officers also found the driver of the pickup truck with minor injuries. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and cooperated with officers during their investigation. They are working to determine what caused this deadly accident in Avila Beach, as well as who was responsible. Officers have reported that this collision remains under investigation.
