Bakersfield, CA (February 21, 2024) A senseless accident claimed a woman’s life on Saturday, February 17th, in Bakersfield. Two DUI drivers were heading right for each other on Pioneer Drive when they collided, head-on. A passenger in one of the vehicles was killed in this deadly collision, according to police officers.
It was the middle of the night in Bakersfield as two vehicles drove along Pioneer Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, a pickup truck was heading west and a Honda was traveling east. Near the intersection of Pioneer Drive and Dennison Lane, the truck crossed the double yellow lines and drifted into oncoming traffic. The truck and the Honda collided, head-on, in the eastbound lane.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene with the California Highway Patrol and found the road blocked by the two badly damaged vehicles. Glass and debris littered the roadway as paramedics made their way to the vehicles to give medical aid to those in need. They found the front passenger of the Honda with fatal injuries. Sadly, there was nothing they could do and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers in the Honda were critically injured and rushed to Kern Medical for treatment. Officers said that neither of the back seat passengers were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The drivers of both vehicles were intoxicated at the time of the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver of the pickup truck, 33, was arrested at the scene for felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury. The driver of the Honda, a 29-year-old man, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
