Hesperia, CA (March 5, 2024) Monday afternoon took a turn for one motorcyclist in Hesperia when they were struck by a drunk driver. It was just after 2:00 p.m. at Maple Avenue and Mariposa Road when the accident occurred. The force of the impact caused the motorcyclist to lose control and hit a Jeep SUV that was in the Pacific Eye Institute parking lot.
The motorcyclist was on a black 2007 Suzuki GSX-R750, heading north on Mariposa Road on Monday afternoon. A black four-door 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora, driven by a woman, was traveling south and suddenly made a left turn right in front of the motorcycle. There was no time for the motorcyclist to react so the two vehicles collided. The motorcyclist then lost control of the motorcycle, which crashed into a Jeep SUV in a business parking lot.
Firefighters from the San Bernadino Fire Department sent paramedics to the scene after receiving the 911 call. They noticed the female driver was acting as if she was drunk so they performed a field sobriety test. They determined she had been driving while under the influence and arrested her at the scene.
Meanwhile, the motorcyclist was lying on the ground with critical injuries, according to officers. He was rushed to Desert Valley Hospital via ambulance and then airlifted to a trauma center to receive treatment.
The investigation into this accident is being led by the Hesperia Police Department.
