North Hollywood, CA (August 11, 2024) A tragic and senseless accident left the community of North Hollywood saddened on Saturday night. A 52-year-old woman was struck by an intoxicated driver who fled the scene, officers reported. It happened on Vanowen Street, not far from Vineland Avenue, right around 11:30 p.m. Tragically, the woman was killed in the collision, according to reports.
The street of North Hollywood were dark as motorists drove to various destinations on Saturday night. One of the motorists was a 52-year-old woman, heading along Vanowen Street. Not far from Vineland Avenue, a 23-year-old man was recklessly driving an SUV at a high rate of speed, reports indicated. The two vehicles collided with a devastating blow. The impact sent the woman’s vehicle onto the curb, where it finally came to a stop near a pole, damaged beyond recognition, officers reported. The SUV sustained major front-end damage in the collision, as well, but the driver continued down the road, fleeing the scene.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrived at the scene and were shocked by the state of the woman’s vehicle. It looked like a heap of twisted and smashed metal and officers knew the occupant’s chances for survival were low. They hurried to the vehicles only to find the driver deceased. Sadly, they pronounced her dead at these scene and called for a coroner.

The damaged SUV was found shortly after authorities arrived at the scene. Officers determined that the 23-year-old driver had been driving while under the influence. A witness reported that the man had a child in the vehicle with him at the time of the accident. Officers placed the man under arrest at the scene and hauled him to jail, according to reports. He faces multiple charges.
Tow trucks were called to the scene to haul away the damaged vehicles, following the investigation. It took crews hours to remove all of the debris and glass from the roadway, following this devastating collision.
