San Diego, CA (October 21, 2024) A collision between a civilian vehicle and a police cruiser occurred on Saturday afternoon in San Diego. It was approximately 12:15 p.m. when the collision occurred, leaving two police officers and two civilians with injuries, reports indicated. The crash took place at the intersection of Barnett Avenue and Midway Drive, not far from Liberty Station.

Early afternoon was met with a normal flow of traffic through the streets of San Diego. A police cruiser was responding to a 911 call as it approached the intersection of Barnett Avenue and Midway Drive with its lights flashing and siren wailing. It was heading west on Barnett and stopped at the red light, ensuring that the intersection was clear. As the cruiser continued through the intersection on a mission, a 27-year-old woman was heading south on Midway in a 2024 Honda Accord. The Honda crashed into the police cruiser, reports indicated.

First responders arrived at the scene and found the Honda and the police car in the middle of the intersection with serious body damage. The 27-year-old Honda driver had sustained a fractured femur and her passenger sustained and orbital fracture in the crash. The two police officers also sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the accident, according to reports.

During the initial investigation, officers determined that the Honda driver was intoxicated. The intersection had to be closed as officers investigated the scene and a tow truck removed the damaged vehicles. Crews worked quickly to remove the debris and glass from the intersection as well.
