Antioch, CA (July 28, 2024) A sad story unfolded in Antioch on Saturday, July 27th, when a female bicyclist was struck and killed by a drunk driver. The accident occurred just after midnight on Saturday morning at the intersection of Sagebrush Drive and Lone Tree Way. The intoxicated driver was arrested, according to reports.
The town of Antioch was blanketed in darkness at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 28th, as a woman rode her bicycle along Lone Tree Way. Suddenly, a vehicle approached as she arrived at Sagebrush Drive. The vehicle hit the rider, throwing her from her bicycle, according to reports. The bicycle was left in a dented heap on the ground and the driver stopped to wait for police officers.

Officers arrived and found the female victim on the ground with life-threatening injuries. They began life-saving techniques on the victim until paramedics with ConFire arrived. They did everything they could to try and save the woman, but she succumbed to her injuries, officers reported. With heavy hearts, authorities pronounced her dead at the scene.
Update: The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Linda Wooldridge of Antioch.
The driver of the vehicle was questioned and officers determined that he had been driving while intoxicated. The 38-year-old man from Antioch was arrested and booked into jail. He is facing several DUI charges, reports indicated. The suspect’s vehicle was towed away and the victim’s bicycle, which was dented and damaged, had to be hauled from the scene, following the investigation.
