Stockton, CA (August 8, 2023) The California Highway Patrol said that a person driving under the influence on Saturday night caused a collision that left 1 person dead and several others injured. The DUI driver was in a Dodge Sedan heading south on Interstate 5 when they hit an SUV near March Lane around 11:56 p.m.

The Dodge Sedan hit the SUV with such force that the SUV slammed into the center divider. One person inside the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Several other people inside the SUV were transported to a local hospital with injuries.
The collision caused all of southbound Interstate 5 to close for more than 2 hours and the driver of the Dodge was arrested for DUI.
