(Los Angeles, CA) A Washington Boulevard Labubu chase ended in a head-on crash after a stolen car loaded with collectible dolls struck another vehicle, inuring the driver early Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, September 17, at about 3:00 a.m., the Washington Boulevard Labubu chase occurred. According to the California Highway Patrol, it began near Olympic Boulevard and Santa Fe Avenue when officers attempted to stop a stolen Hyundai.

Within a minute, the suspect’s vehicle slammed head-on into another car at Washington Boulevard and McGarry Street. Emergency responders transported the struck driver to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Authorities arrested the fleeing Hyundai driver at the scene, though a passenger managed to escape.

Reports indicated the vehicle was filled with Labubu dolls and other plush toys stolen from a business in Whittier. The Washington Boulevard Labubu chase remains under investigation as police search for the passenger who fled.

Legal Opinion on the Washington Boulevard Labubu Chase

A lawyer speaks to a client regarding an accident.

The Washington Boulevard Labubu chase highlights several violations of California law, involving both criminal charges and civil liability. Since the crash resulted from a pursuit in a stolen car, multiple statutes apply. The most serious criminal violation is California Vehicle Code 2800.2, which prohibits fleeing from law enforcement with reckless driving. The suspect endangered others by leading CHP on a high-speed pursuit and crashing head-on into another car.

Additionally, theft charges may apply since the car and Labubu dolls were stolen. These fall under California Penal Code 487, which covers grand theft, and California Code, PEN 459, which addresses burglary if the theft involves breaking into a business. The reckless driving itself also violates California Vehicle Code 23103, which defines reckless driving as operating a vehicle with willful disregard for safety. Given the head-on impact, this statute clearly applies.

From a civil perspective, the innocent driver struck in the collision may file a personal injury claim. Even though the suspect may face criminal charges, the victim can still pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, property damage, and pain and suffering.

What the Injured Driver Can Do

The injured driver should contact a personal injury attorney immediately. An attorney can work with CHP to obtain the pursuit report, gather hospital records, and pursue a civil claim against the suspect. Even though the suspect faces criminal prosecution, civil claims allow victims to recover damages directly. In some cases, victims may also seek compensation through California’s Victim Compensation Board if restitution is difficult to collect.

The injured driver should also monitor the ongoing investigation, especially since authorities are still seeking the fleeing passenger. Civil action taken quickly after the Washington Boulevard Labubu chase will help preserve evidence and ensure justice for the harm caused.
