Trinity County, CA (July 23, 2024) A two-vehicle collision on Highway 299 in Trinity County left four people with injuries, according to reports. The accident took place near Burnt Ranch at approximately 10:21 a.ma. on Sunday, July 21st. The crash sent four people to local hospitals with various injuries.
Late morning on Sunday, July 21st, was met with surprise and stress for four people in Trinity County. A driver was heading along Highway 299 behind a slower-moving vehicle. He attempted to pass the vehicle at a high speed, but after crossing the double yellow lines, realized it wasn’t safe to pass. He swerved back into his lane and hit the rear-end of the vehicle in front of him while doing so. The impact caused one vehicle to swerve off the road and crash into a tree, officers reported. The other vehicle ended up stopped in the middle of the highway, causing serious traffic issues.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found both damaged vehicles and quickly evaluated the occupants for injuries. One vehicle had three occupants, all of whom had sustained injuries in the crash. One person was found with moderate injuries and two others had minor injuries. Paramedics took all three of them to Mad River Community Hospital in Arcata, officers reported.
The driver of the at-fault vehicle had suffered critical injuries in the accident. Officers requested a medical helicopter to come to the scene. The driver was quickly airlifted to a hospital to receive emergency care for serious injuries.
