Gustine, CA (February 9, 2024) A peaceful morning drive on State Route Highway 152 ended in chaos on Thursday, February 8th, when a major accident rattled the morning commute. Two vehicles collided near the San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area just before 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. One person involved sustained serious injuries in the crash and had to be airlifted to a hospital.

A white SUV and a pickup truck were driving along State Route Highway 152 on Thursday morning when, for reasons still unknown, the two vehicles collided. The two vehicles weren’t far from the Romero Visitor Center when they crashed, authorities said. The force from the collision caused one of the vehicles to slam into a center divide guardrail and rollover, finally coming to a rest back on its wheels.

California Highway Patrol Dispatch received the call about a two-vehicle accident and sent emergency crews to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a disaster scene. Both vehicles were severely damaged and debris and glass were strewn all over the road. Nearly 20 feet of the guardrail in the center divide had been destroyed in this crash. A third vehicle that wasn’t involved in the collision, reported that debris from the crash hit their vehicle.

Paramedics found at least one person in serious condition following the collision. They called for an air ambulance to transport the victims to a hospital for treatment. Tow trucks had to remove both of the damaged vehicles from the scene and crews worked to clean the area of glass and debris, officers reported. Investigators searched the scene for evidence to help them determine what caused this damaging accident and who was at fault.
