Los Angeles, CA (July 6, 2024) The community of Willowbrook was shocked and saddened as news spread of a collision that claimed a woman’s life. The two-vehicle accident happened just before 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Central Avenue, officers reported.
Darkness covered the neighborhood of Willowbrook on Saturday morning. It was so late (or early) that many would consider it the middle of the night. Two vehicles approached the intersection of El Segundo Boulevard and Central Avenue in Los Angeles at the same time.

Sirens filled the air and flashing emergency lights illuminated the darkness as emergency vehicles hurried to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the two vehicles in the middle of the intersection, badly damaged. Officers went to the vehicles and looked inside, ready to give life-saving treatment to anyone in need. Unfortunately, they found one of the occupants unresponsive. She had been killed in the collision, officers reported. Sadly, they pronounced her dead at the scene and called for a coroner.
Update: The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Brenda Mejia. A 32-year-old was driving a Toyota that collided with an Infiniti. Mejia was a passenger in the Infiniti.
The Toyota driver was arrested for possible DUI. Another passenger in the Infiniti, Sharlyn Vaca, 20, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Two juvenile passengers in the Toyota were also hospitalized.
