Whitewater, CA (May 20, 2024) The afternoon of Friday, May 17th, took a stressful turn for motorists in Whitewater. At approximately 2:12 p.m., two vehicles collided, head on at the intersection of Haugen Lehmann Way and Railroad Avenue. Officers believe that one of the drivers may have fallen asleep while driving, according to reports. Though no one was killed in this head-on collision, two people were left with injuries.

A blue 2019 Toyota Camry was approaching the intersection at the same time as another, unidentified, vehicle. For reasons still unknown, the two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection, blocking traffic. Both vehicles sustained major damage in the accident and glass and debris littered the roadway in every direction.

Authorities arrived at the scene and found the two vehicles, severely damaged and blocking lanes of traffic. Officers had to divert traffic away from the scene as paramedics hurried to help anyone who had been injured in the accident. Two people inside the Toyota were injured in this collision and both were also complaining of chest pain, according to the California Highway Patrol. The two victims were loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.

Detectives at the scene walked around and gathered evidence. Officers believe that one of the drivers may have fallen asleep behind the wheel, causing this head-on collision. The investigation is ongoing at this time, officers said. Two tow trucks were called to remove the two severely damaged vehicles from the scene and crews worked diligently to clean up the glass and debris from the roadway so traffic could resume.
