North Highlands, CA (July 24, 2024) The community of North Highlands are thankful that two people survived a solo collision on Thursday, July 18th. The two were in a vehicle that lost control and drove off the road on Business 80, near the 80 Freeway connector, according to reports. It happened right at 7:44 p.m. and left the driver and passenger with significant injuries.

It was Thursday evening in North Highlands as a vehicle with two occupants traveled along Business 80. For reasons that are still being investigated, the vehicle veered off the roadway and caused a solo-vehicle collision, officers reported. The vehicle went over the embankment on the side of the road where it crashed, causing injuries to both occupants.

The Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived at the scene and found the damaged vehicle down the embankment on Business 80. Firefighters hurried down the embankment to offer aid to those inside the vehicle. They found the driver and one passenger, both with injuries, according to reports. They removed both people from the vehicle and loaded them into ambulances. They were then transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for unknown injuries.

Officers had to close a left connector lane which caused significant traffic issues. They gathered evidence at the scene and are working diligently to try and understand what exactly caused the vehicle to lose control. Special tools had to be used to pull the vehicle from the embankment and back onto the roadway, where it was then hauled off by a tow truck. The collision left a large amount of glass and debris that crews cleaned up as quickly as they could. Officers have stated that the investigation into this accident is ongoing.
