Riverside, CA (September 4, 2024) A crazy collision occurred in Riverside today, leaving one person with injuries. It all started with a kitten crossing the Riverside (91) Freeway and causing a three-vehicle collision in the process. It happened right around 12:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes and ended with the kitten making it safely to the other side. Motorists did not fare so well, though.
It was Wednesday afternoon in Riverside as vehicles headed along the 91 Freeway. In the westbound lanes, a small kitten wandered into the freeway and began crossing. A motorist in a sedan saw the kitten heading towards the center divide and stopped in the fast lane to rescue the kitten. As he grabbed the animal, another vehicle slammed on the brakes, skidding to a stop behind the first vehicle. The car behind them, however, did not have time to stop and slammed into the back of the second vehicle. The force sent the second vehicle barreling into the first stopped vehicle, according to reports.

The Riverside Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and found the three wrecked vehicles in the fast lane. Paramedics checked the occupants of all three vehicles and found one person with injuries. They were taken to Riverside Community Hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Evidence was gathered at the scene and the three damaged vehicles had to be removed from the scene and onto the right shoulder. Crews cleaned up the debris that was left behind from the collision. The kitten was also safely rescued from the busy freeway in Riverside.
