North Hollywood, CA (September 12, 2024) A chaotic and stressful collision occurred in North Hollywood on Thursday morning, September 12th, 2024. A stalled pickup truck was sitting in the middle of the freeway and was struck by other vehicles, according to reports. It happened on the 170 Freeway, not far from Sherman Way, around 4:43 a.m.
It was dark during the early morning hours as a disabled pickup truck sat on the 170 Freeway fast lane and middle lane. The disabled pickup had no lights on and was difficult for other drivers to see in the dark, reports indicated. Dispatch received a 911 call from someone reporting that the pickup was sitting in the middle of the highway and blocking lanes of traffic. Shortly after the call, a vehicles was seen driving in the HOV lane before slamming into the disabled pickup. A black Chevy Tahoe and a van also crashed into the stalled pickup truck, officers reported. A gray Honda Civic was also involved and burst into flames. To make matters worse, more vehicles came down that stretch of highway, hitting debris and losing control of their vehicles.

Emergency crews arrived and found several vehicles in different locations all over the 170 Freeway, near Sherman Way. The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived and had to free one victim who was trapped inside the vehicle. Another victim had been ejected during the collision, officers reported. Several people were found with injuries and at least one was transported to the hospital for further treatment. The details surrounding the injuries in this collision have not been disclosed.
