Santa Margarita, CA (June 12, 2024) A collision involving at least two vehicles on Highway 101, left one person with serious injuries on Tuesday morning, June 11th. The injured person was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by an emergency rescue crew, reports indicated. It all happened at Tassajara Creek Road just before 9:00 a.m. in Santa Margarita.

A red Toyota Camry was traveling south on Highway 101 when, for reasons still unknown, it collided with another vehicle in the No. 1 lane of the highway. The two vehicles stopped in the middle of the roadway, blocking the southbound lanes of the highway. Officers stated that there was “heavy debris” on the highway in all directions around the scene and the two vehicles were severely damaged in the accident.

Deputies with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Station responded to the call and arrived at the scene within minutes. They found one person unconscious inside their vehicle, but reports indicated that they couldn’t get to the woman. Emergency rescue crews were eventually able to remove the unconscious woman from the vehicle and paramedics rushed her to a local hospital via ambulance to receive treatment. Reports indicated that the woman had sustained serious injuries in the collision, but the extent of the injuries has not been disclosed.

Officers also found a small dog inside the vehicle. It was in a crate at the time of the collision and was injured during the crash. Officers called Animal Control who arrived at the scene and took the dog to a local shelter to receive emergency medical care for its injuries.

Deputies at the scene began the investigation and are determined to learn what exactly caused this collision on Highway 101 in Santa Margarita. They are also determined to figure out who was at fault in this accident. It took crews hours to clean up all of the debris that had been left behind by the collision and officers called for tow trucks to come and remove the vehicles from the scene so that traffic on Highway 101 could resume as normal.
