Monterey, CA (July 30, 2024) A serious head-on collision occurred in Monterey on Monday evening, July 29th. The two-vehicle accident happened on State Route 68, east of Pasadera Drive, just after 6:00 p.m. The collision left one victim trapped inside their vehicles, according to reports.

Just after 6:00 p.m. in Monterey, the smooth flow of traffic would drastically change on State Route 68. A gray sedan and a white Toyota sedan suddenly collided in the westbound lanes of the highway, officers reported. The impact sent the gray sedan onto its roof and another vehicle was forced off the roadway. Debris flew in all directions before raining down on the highway. Traffic was significantly affected by the accident, as well.

Emergency personnel with the California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene within minutes and found the damaged vehicles on the highway. Officers hurried to check on the occupants, ready to offer medical aid to anyone in need. They found one passenger trapped inside the vehicle. They quickly worked together to free the victim from the wreckage and they were promptly taken to a local hospital to receive treatment. Another person complained of back pain following the collision, officers said. Paramedics also took them to a nearby hospital to receive medical care.

Officers took statements from those who had witnessed the accident and gathered every piece of evidence they could find at the scene. They then call for tow trucks to come and remove the damaged vehicles from the highway. So much debris and glass was left behind that it took crews a while to clear it all off of State Route 68 before traffic could resume. Officers are working to determine what caused this accident and who was at fault.
