Lancaster, CA (October 13, 2024) A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred in Lancaster on Saturday morning, October 12th, 2024. The accident occurred on Avenue J, at approximately 6:18 a.m. One person was killed in this collision and two other sustained injuries, officers reported.
The sun had yet to fully rise as vehicles traveled along East Avenue J in Lancaster. A Ford was heading east on Avenue J when a BMW began driving west into oncoming traffic. The BMW hit the Ford, head-on, causing both damaged vehicles to block the eastbound lanes of the roadway. Debris and glass were thrown in every direction, littering the roadway and causing more traffic hazards.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the damaged vehicles in the middle of Avenue J. They hurried to the vehicles, ready to give medical care to anyone who had been injured in the accident. They found one person trapped inside the vehicle and had to use special tools to extricate them. Three people had been injured in the collision, according to reports. One person had sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Antelope Valley Medical Center. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other two victims were also transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports. They are both expected to make a full recovery.
Update (10/18): The victim has been identified as Cesar Rodriguez-Ortiz, 33.
