Merced, CA (July 25, 2024) One person sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday morning, July 25th. The collision involved an 18-foot box truck and occurred just after 5:00 a.m., according to police officers. It happened on State Route 99 in Merced, not far from R Street, and involved seven vehicles.

An 18-foot long box truck was traveling along State Route 99 in Merced, carrying 12,000 pounds of food. Officers are still not sure what exactly happened on that stretch of highway in the dark, early morning hours, but somehow, the box truck managed to collided with six other vehicles. Debris was tossed in every direction and the highway began completely blocked by the seven damaged vehicles. Two of the vehicles involved became stuck together.

Emergency crews arrived at a chaotic and messy scene. The large box truck had major front-end damage and other vehicles were also dented and smashed in what felt like a field of wreckage. Officers discovered two vehicles that had collided so hard they became stuck together. Specialized tools had to be used to separate the vehicles, according to reports. One of the seven vehicles involved in the accident was a white Nissan Altima. Paramedics found the driver with serious injuries and rushed them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It may have been difficult to decide where to even begin, but offers investigated the scene as thoroughly as possible. Following the investigation, tow trucks were called to remove several damaged vehicles from the highway. The debris and glass that had been left behind was nothing short of impressive and took crews hours to clean up before State Route 99 was reopened to drivers. Officers continue to work this case to not only determine what happened to cause this seven-vehicle collision, but also to discover who was at fault.
