Pleasanton, CA (April 10, 2024) One person sustained serious injuries in a five-vehicle collision on the Interstate 580 Freeway in Pleasanton on Wednesday morning. The accident took place at approximately 5:48 a.m. near the Dougherty Road off-ramp, according to reports.
It was early morning in Pleasanton as vehicles drove along the Interstate 580 Freeway. In the westbound lanes of the freeway, five vehicles suddenly collided for unknown reasons, according to officers. A green Lexus, a GMC pickup truck, a black Ford F-150, a white Tesla Y and a blue Ford Transit van were all involved in the collision on the morning of April 10th. Officers suspect that the accident was a chain reaction collision, but the five vehicles involved ended up blocking the westbound lanes of traffic on the interstate.
California Highway Patrol officers hurried to the scene and found the five vehicles with damage in the middle of the freeway. They issued a SigAlert for the area of the accident on Interstate 580. Drivers were encouraged to find alternate routes as traffic began to back up, officer reported.
Paramedics began checking occupants in the five vehicles to see if anyone required medical attention. One person was seriously injured in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. A few others sustained minor injuries in the collision, according to paramedics. It is unknown if anyone else was sent to a hospital.
Officers spoke to those involved as well as witness and gathered evidence at the scene. They are determined to figure out what caused this five-vehicle collision and who was at fault. Crews had to clean glass and debris from the freeway and tow trucks were called to the scene. The Lexus was completely totaled in the accident, one of the pickups had a broken axle and the Tesla Y had serious rear-end damage. All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene, officers said.
