Contra Costa, CA (June 21, 2024) Interstate 80 in Contra Costa became the scene of a deadly, two-vehicle, rollover collision on Friday morning, June 21st. Authorities reported that the accident took place near the Willow Avenue exit in Rodeo just after 4:00 a.m. in the East Bay area. One person was killed in this traumatic collision and another one was seriously injured, according to reports.

Dispatchers reported that a 911 call came in to report an accident early on Friday morning. However, as the dispatcher spoke to the caller, they heard a loud crash and the person on the phone stopped responding to them. The dispatcher sent the alert to police officers who hurried to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a silver Cadillac sedan and a silver Chrysler 300 sedan that had obviously collided. Officers reported that the Cadillac was laying on its roof. Officers found two people with serious injuries, one of whom had deep lacerations to their face, head and left arm.

The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department also arrived at the scene and assisted police officers in closing the freeway to make room for a helicopter to land. A SigAlert was issued and drivers were asked to take alternate routes following the collision. At least one of the victims was transported to a local trauma center via a medical helicopter. Sadly, officers reported that one of the victims succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Authorities began investigating the scene and are working to determine what caused this fatal accident in Contra Costa. They are also hoping to piece together who was at fault. Officers had to call tow trucks to the scene to remove the damaged vehicles from Interstate 80. Workers cleaned up debris and glass as quickly as they could once the investigation was finished, reports indicated.
